Laundry Assistant

About the role

The Domestic Services Department at Stracathro Hospital and Susan Carnegie Centre is seeking a Laundry Assistant to support the delivery of high‑standard cleanliness across the healthcare environment. You will work on a Thursday‑Friday roster, contributing to the safe handling and processing of linen throughout the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, sort and process normal, soiled, infected and foul linen in accordance with infection‑control procedures.
• Operate laundry equipment, ensuring correct settings for different linen types.
• Maintain accurate laundry‑related paperwork and records.
• Clean and tidy clinical areas such as wards, side rooms, theatres, offices, health centres and GP practices.
• Adhere to health and safety, infection control and confidentiality standards.
• Perform physical tasks including walking, standing, bending, lifting and using appropriate aids for the duration of the shift.

Required profile

• Ability to work both independently (including lone working) and as part of a team.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Resilience to cope with unpredictable situations and pressure in a busy clinical setting.
• Willingness to complete mandatory training (online and face‑to‑face).
• Commitment to follow instructions, maintain confidentiality and observe the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of health and safety and infection‑control principles.
• Familiarity with operating laundry machinery and handling contaminated textiles safely.
