About the role
The Prototype Technician will build prototype medical device products and components using automated, semi‑automated and manual methods. The role supports rapid development by selecting optimal processes and providing feedback to design and manufacturing engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Support R&D and AO during new product introductions, contributing to design and process reviews, fixture/tooling design and design‑for‑manufacturing.
- Design complex prototypes and fixtures using CAD/CAM and build the required apparatus.
- Interpret engineering schematics and specifications, using precision measuring equipment to verify compliance with design and quality standards.
- Specify, evaluate and order new equipment, tooling, materials and supplies for each assignment.
- Maintain documentation, process control and laboratory housekeeping to the highest standards.
- Train and assist colleagues on product development and related topics.
- Collaborate with external toolrooms and suppliers to outsource work and resolve technical challenges.
- Coordinate with facilities to maintain prototype equipment, fixtures and fittings.
Required profile
- Tool making or similar craft qualification, or an engineering certificate with experience in a precision machining environment.
- Hands‑on experience machining a wide variety of metals and plastics.
- Ability to program and operate CNC and manual machine tools, as well as hand, power and test/inspection tools.
- Strong analytical skills to resolve complex machining issues independently.
- Quick learner of new equipment, software packages and programming languages.
- Proficient at reading complex engineering drawings and following detailed inspection procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project requests simultaneously.
- Advanced mathematics and measurement skills with strong problem‑solving ability.
