Senior Station Technician – Clogherhead Lifeboat Station

About the role

The Senior Station Technician ensures the Clogherhead Lifeboat Station operates flawlessly, maintaining the Shannon Class All‑Weather Lifeboat and its launch and recovery system. The role blends mechanical expertise, leadership and a commitment to safety, supporting both equipment and volunteer crew readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Inspire, motivate and develop volunteer crew members, delivering shore‑based training.
• Maintain the Shannon Class Lifeboat and Launch & Recovery System in optimal condition.
• Lead Quality, Safety, Health and Environment initiatives and foster a positive safety culture.
• Manage day‑to‑day station operations, including email correspondence, record keeping and coordination with the Operations Team.
• Engage with the public to promote the station’s work.

Required profile

• Strong relationship‑building skills with volunteers, local supporters and RNLI staff.
• Willingness to obtain or progress toward required engineering qualifications.
• Motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team, with a problem‑solving mindset.
• High interpersonal skills, openness to feedback and a pride in delivering quality work.

Required skills

• Knowledge of marine diesel engine operation, maintenance and repair.
• Mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering background.
• Leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Understanding of QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment) principles.
