AI Architect

About the role

Marsh, a global insurance broking and risk management firm, has formed a new AI Center of Excellence to bring emerging AI capabilities to its engineers and business teams. It is looking for an AI Architect to shape how AI is adopted across a global enterprise, owning parts of the AI platform architecture end to end. This is an architecture role, not a pure engineering role, but you will get hands-on with the technologies you evaluate.

Key responsibilities

• Own areas of the AI platform architecture, designing how AI capabilities integrate with Marsh's existing technology landscape
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies (LLMs, memory systems, agentic frameworks, guardrails) and define what success looks like for the next proof-of-concept
• Work with software engineers on focused PoCs, covering integration patterns, deployment topology and alignment with the roadmap
• Build and maintain reference architectures, integration diagrams and technology radar documents
• Produce architecture documentation useful to both human engineers and AI coding agents
• Present at the Architecture Council, Dev Council and business unit forums, and coach peers in the AI CoE

Required profile

• Professional experience in software engineering, architecture or technical design, with a track record of contributing to design decisions
• Experience designing system architecture: integration patterns, component decomposition and technology selection
• Ability to evaluate a new technology quickly and form a clear architectural opinion
• Strong communication skills, able to explain technical recommendations to engineers and senior stakeholders

Required skills

• Cloud-native architecture across AWS, Azure and GCP
• Hands-on comfort with AI coding platforms and copilots such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or Cursor
• Nice to have: experience with AI/ML technologies (LLMs, RAG, embeddings, agent frameworks), enterprise architecture, architecture documentation for AI agents, cloud architecture certifications, and experience presenting at architecture forums

The role involves working with preview-stage technologies and shaping technical direction across Marsh. Marsh is committed to hybrid work, with colleagues expected in their local office or onsite with clients at least three days per week.
