Assistant Financial Controller

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Financial Controller to join the Group Finance team at Smyths Toys. The role supports group functions, delivers accurate financial reporting, drives process improvements and acts as a bridge between finance, IT and other business areas.

Key responsibilities

• Support preparation of consolidated Group annual financial statements in line with FRS102 and ensure timely, accurate statutory reporting across subsidiaries.
• Own the month‑end process, produce management reports and maintain consolidation and inter‑company processes.
• Partner with IT to enhance financial systems, lead system upgrades and digital transformation projects, and ensure data integrity.
• Assist in managing group audit relationships and coordinate audits across all subsidiaries.
• Communicate complex financial issues to non‑finance stakeholders and build strong relationships across the business.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with at least 2 years post‑qualification experience; Big 4 background preferred.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly FRS102, and experience in audit management and statutory reporting.
• Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
