Assistant Professor in Primary Science Education

About the role

The School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies at Dublin City University seeks an Assistant Professor to strengthen its primary science education portfolio. The role is an 11‑month fixed‑term appointment supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teacher‑education programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and develop primary science education modules for initial teacher training.
• Engage in research and scholarship on innovative pedagogies and emerging trends in Irish primary STEM education.
• Contribute to curriculum design and quality assurance at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the School to enhance interdisciplinary STEM initiatives.
• Participate in academic administration, student supervision and community outreach activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Science Education or a closely related discipline (required for above‑bar salary scale).
• Demonstrated expertise in primary science education and familiarity with current Irish primary curriculum reforms.
• Experience with innovative teaching methods and STEM integration.
• Desirable experience or qualification in Mathematics education.

• Knowledge of contemporary primary science pedagogies.
