Construction Materials Technician – Site Based in Cork

About the role
We are seeking a Construction Materials Technician to join our team at Breedon Surfacing Solutions in Cork. In this site‑based position you will work closely with the contract surfacing division and be responsible for the on‑site testing of bituminous products.
Key responsibilities
- Test and sample aggregate, bituminous and unbound earthworks materials, including material laying records, temperature checks, compaction control testing with an electrostatic density gauge, rolling straight‑edge testing, surface macro‑texture testing (sand‑patch), binder content and grading, both in the laboratory and on‑site.
- Maintain a safe and tidy workspace and ensure all testing equipment is kept in good condition.
- Follow company and accrediting‑body quality procedures to uphold quality standards.
- Record sample details on test record sheets and electronic software programmes.
- Assist with the calibration of all testing equipment and prepare for inspections from independent accrediting bodies.
- Undertake daily equipment checks and provide technical cover for other contracts within Southern Ireland when required.
Required profile
- Educated to Leaving Certificate standard (or equivalent).
- Experience working in a team environment, providing information and support to colleagues.
- Flexibility to work night shifts or weekends if required.
- Full driving licence.
- Desirable: experience, knowledge and understanding of on‑site testing, particularly highway contracts and surfacing.
- Desirable: previous experience in sampling and testing construction materials or transferable skills.
- Desirable: awareness of safe work practices on construction sites or production depots.
- Desirable: physical ability to handle bulky materials and operate mechanical equipment such as an asphalt road coring drill.
