Consultant in General Medicine

About the role

This position is for a Consultant in General (Internal) Medicine working within HSE public hospitals in Ireland. The role involves delivering high‑quality patient care, supporting service development, and contributing to the education of junior doctors and medical students.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively with fellow consultants, NCHDs, nursing and allied health professionals.
• Provide consistent, high‑standard care to general medicine patients.
• Identify service improvement opportunities and lead development initiatives.
• Deliver teaching and training sessions for medical students.
• Supervise and be accountable for the output of NCHDs.

Required profile

• Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) in General (Internal) Medicine, or registration in progress.
• Equivalent EU/EEA or UK GMC specialist registration accepted.
• Relevant medical qualifications.
• Minimum three years of consultant‑level experience in internal medicine.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Legal permission to live and work in Ireland.
