Data Center Physical Infrastructure Specialist

About the role

The Data Center Physical Infrastructure Specialist will provide technical support for planning, implementation and operation of Abbott’s IT hosting environments across all sites. The role involves Level III support for acquisition, divestiture and infrastructure projects, ensuring that physical infrastructure meets both corporate and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver IT infrastructure solutions, including low‑voltage and fiber‑optic cabling, electrical power, UPS, HVAC, security and external LAN/WAN/Voice platforms.
• Maintain compliance with Abbott engineering standards, industry standards (e.g., ANSI TIA/EIA) and FDA/OSHA regulations.
• Oversee the life‑cycle management of mechanical, electrical, life‑safety and structured‑cabling systems.
• Lead pre‑implementation design, construction and installation of network hardware such as Cat 6A cabling and wireless access points.
• Supervise installation teams on construction sites and ensure timely delivery.
• Act as the technical subject‑matter expert, providing consulting support to business units and senior management.
• Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation for implementation and operational support.

Required profile

• Proven experience in data‑center or large‑scale IT infrastructure projects, including planning for site acquisitions or divestitures.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards and regulatory compliance (FDA, OSHA).
• Ability to work on‑site, coordinate with construction teams and interact with internal customers.
