Data Center Technician – Technical IT (Contract)

About the role

This contract position supports Microsoft’s data centre operations through Allegis Global Solutions. The technician works hands‑on with servers, networking gear and other hardware, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment while following strict safety and procedural standards.

Key responsibilities

• Install, stage, rack and cable servers, hard drives, switches and related equipment.
• Perform equipment start‑up and shutdown activities and verify cabling, labeling and grounding.
• Troubleshoot hardware failures, replace faulty components and conduct basic hardware refreshes.
• Execute memory upgrades, hardware replacements and operating‑system rebuilds.
• Follow deployment checklists, standard operating procedures and document status updates.
• Escalate complex issues to senior data‑centre leads when required.

Required profile

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in IT support, desktop support, field technician work, server support or hardware repair.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends or holidays.
• Comfortable working in a physical data‑centre environment and adhering to PPE requirements.

Required skills

• Basic computer hardware knowledge.
• Experience with servers, switches and network equipment.
• Hardware troubleshooting and component replacement.
• Memory upgrades and OS rebuilds.
• Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Windows 11 compatible laptop usage.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems.
