Deputy Financial Controller

About the role

The Deputy Financial Controller supports the Financial Controller in managing day‑to‑day finance operations, reporting and control across the organisation. This role offers a fully ACCA‑qualified professional the chance to develop strategic insight and leadership in a dynamic, commercially focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in line with accounting standards.
• Produce management accounts, variance analysis and commentary for senior stakeholders.
• Own the general ledger integrity and ensure a timely month‑end close.
• Lead cash‑flow forecasting, short‑ and long‑term forecasts and highlight liquidity risks.
• Support annual budgeting and re‑forecast cycles, partnering with budget owners.
• Coordinate external audit and act as primary contact for auditors.
• Ensure compliance with statutory reporting, VAT and corporation tax.
• Supervise and mentor junior finance team members and deputise for the Financial Controller.
• Identify and implement improvements to financial systems, reporting tools and processes.

Required profile

• Fully ACCA qualified with 1–3 years post‑qualification experience in a senior finance role.
• Proven experience in management accounts, financial reporting and budgeting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a finance team.
• High accuracy, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication, able to present financial information to non‑finance audiences.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting and ERP systems.
