Elderly Care Nurse (Ireland)

About the role

The Elderly Care Nurse will deliver high‑quality nursing care to older patients within Medcare Hospital. Working under the supervision of the Head Nurse or Duty Manager, you will provide direct care across a range of clinical areas, ensuring patient safety and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments tailored to the age‑specific needs of each patient.
• Develop, implement and regularly update individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
• Deliver nursing interventions, monitor outcomes and adjust goals to reflect changing conditions.
• Document care activities accurately using hospital information systems.
• Maintain infection‑control standards, participate in fire, disaster and mock code drills, and initiate corrective actions when required.
• Provide patient and family education, assess learning needs and support discharge planning.
• Contribute to quality‑assessment programs and assist in the review of policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Relevant nursing experience in Western Europe, the USA, South Africa or Australia.
• Ability to work any shift, including on‑call periods, in a hospital setting.
• Registered nurse qualification and current registration.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a caring and empathetic approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer systems for patient documentation.
• Knowledge of infection‑control practices and emergency response protocols.
