About the role
The Rinn Artificial Intelligence national centre at the University of Galway is offering a cohort of nine fully funded PhD studentships in Data Science and AI, starting September 2026. Successful candidates will join a structured, cohort‑based training programme while pursuing original research within one of several thematic areas.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct independent PhD research aligned with a chosen theme (e.g., foundational methods, people‑centred AI, health).
- Participate in cohort training activities such as hackathons, spin‑out sprints, and peer‑led workshops.
- Engage with industry and public‑service partners through placements, visits, and collaborative projects.
- Present research findings at seminars, conferences, and reading groups.
Required profile
- Recent graduate (master’s level) in any of the following fields: arts & humanities, business, education, computer science, engineering, health sciences, life sciences, mathematics, statistics, social science, or law.
- Strong motivation for interdisciplinary AI research and willingness to work in a collaborative cohort.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with encouragement for applicants from under‑represented groups.

What we offer
- Annual stipend of €25,000 (tax‑free) for four years.
