General Manager

About the role

The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society (CPBS) is seeking a General Manager to lead day‑to‑day operations, ensure robust governance and drive financial performance. Reporting to the Council, you will act as the senior employee responsible for translating Council decisions into effective, lawful actions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead overall operational management and supervise all staff.
• Provide high‑quality reporting, advice and implementation support to the Council.
• Oversee budgeting, management accounts and liaison with accountants and auditors.
• Ensure compliance with governance, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Direct HR functions, guaranteeing adherence to employment legislation and best practice.
• Manage organisational risk and maintain appropriate internal controls.
• Represent CPBS with stakeholders, regulators and at Society events.

Required profile

• Extensive senior management experience in a regulated, charity or member‑based organisation.
• Strong expertise in governance, compliance and board support.
• Proven track record in financial oversight and budgeting.
• Solid HR and people‑management experience.
• Excellent judgement, discretion and communication skills.

Required skills

• Company secretarial, corporate governance, legal or finance qualification (desirable).
• Experience working closely with Boards or Councils (desirable).
