Lecturer – Children’s Literature & Culture

About the role

The University of Galway invites applications for a permanent Lecturer position in Children’s Studies, specialising in Children’s Literature and Culture. The role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributing to research, and supporting programme administration within an interdisciplinary, child‑centred department.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, seminars and workshops across all years of the BA Children’s Studies programmes.
• Develop and teach postgraduate modules related to children’s literature and culture.
• Coordinate modules, year‑long programmes and Erasmus/placement activities.
• Undertake administrative duties such as programme planning and student advising.
• Maintain an active research agenda and publish in the field.

Required profile

• PhD in Literature, Cultural Studies or a cognate discipline with a focus on children’s literature and/or culture.
• Demonstrated record of research commensurate with a lecturer position.
• Prior teaching and administrative experience at third‑level institutions.
• Ability to work collaboratively across diverse academic disciplines.

Required skills

• Academic research and publication in children’s literature and culture.
• Curriculum design and delivery for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Programme and module coordination, including Erasmus/placement management.
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
