Level 3 Senior Network Engineer (Cisco ACI Required)

About the role

ICON, a global healthcare intelligence and clinical research organisation, is hiring a Level 3 Senior Network Engineer (Principal Engineer II) in its Global Network Operations team in Dublin. The role is the highest technical escalation point, providing technical leadership, resolving complex network issues, supporting global infrastructure projects and keeping the enterprise network stable, secure and available. It is an office-hybrid position with 60% office attendance at the HQ in Leopardstown, Dublin 18.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the highest technical escalation point for critical incidents, lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis, and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 engineers
• Take part in Major Incident Management calls and lead technical recovery
• Keep the global network available and perform BAU operations for routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN, load balancers, VPNs, DNS and cloud networking
• Lead network implementation for global projects, design and review solutions, and support datacentre migrations, cloud connectivity and technology refresh
• Approve high-risk network changes and support mergers, acquisitions and global expansion
• Own and support Cisco ACI, Meraki and ISE, Fortinet firewalls, NetScaler/F5 load balancers, SASE (CATO preferred), BGP/OSPF, Azure and AWS networking, and automation with Ansible, Python or PowerShell
• Monitor networks with tools such as ThousandEyes, SolarWinds or Site24x7, analyse performance and packet captures, and ensure compliance with security standards

Required profile

• Minimum 10+ years of hands-on enterprise networking experience
• Experience in large-scale global networks and 24x7 operations supporting mission-critical infrastructure
• Proven track record leading major incident resolution and infrastructure projects
• Preferred certifications: CCNP Enterprise or CCIE, Fortinet NSE 7/8 or FCSS, Citrix NetScaler, CATO Certified Professional, AWS or Azure networking, ITIL Foundation (any two an advantage)

Required skills

• Cisco ACI (required), Cisco Meraki and ISE (preferred), Fortinet, NetScaler/F5, SD-WAN (CATO preferred)
• BGP, OSPF, network segmentation and micro-segmentation
• Automation with Ansible, Python or PowerShell
• Monitoring and analysis with Wireshark/TCPDump and network monitoring platforms
