Maintenance Fitter – Heavy Industry Sawmill

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join a leading timber processing plant in Fermoy. The role is essential to keep all mechanical systems and equipment operating at peak performance in a fast‑paced sawmill environment.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and internal standards.
• Diagnose faults, carry out repairs and perform routine maintenance on plant equipment.
• Act as first responder for mechanical breakdowns on‑site.
• Execute preventative and predictive maintenance tasks and support continuous‑improvement projects.
• Maintain and repair motors, gearboxes (up to 125 kW), chain drives, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mobile plant equipment, boilers and drying kilns.
• Manufacture or modify spare parts using milling, turning and welding techniques.
• Document spare‑part usage and support plant upgrade initiatives.

Required profile

• Time‑served mechanical fitter with relevant qualifications (Mechanical Automation, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Toolmaking or related).
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in heavy industry or similar environment.
• Willingness to work indoors and outdoors year‑round.
• Valid driving licence; forklift licence preferred.
• Ability to commute to or relocate to Fermoy, Co. Cork.
