Mechanical Assessor & Trainer

About the role

Mercury is seeking a Mechanical Assessor & Trainer to deliver practical welding and pipefitting training to its apprentices and existing trades workforce. The role focuses on preparing apprentices for college assessments and standardising competencies across projects in Ireland and occasionally Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on welding training to apprentices before they commence college blocks.
• Reinforce core welding theory, including processes, materials, joint preparation, symbols and safety.
• Prepare apprentices for practical assessments through mock tests and skills reinforcement.
• Ensure apprentices follow safe working practices, proper tool handling and workshop discipline.
• Deliver practical and theoretical training for pipefitting apprentices as required.
• Conduct trade tests for pipefitters before placement and on active projects.

Required profile

• Time‑served welder and/or pipefitter with significant industrial experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with welding processes such as MMA, TIG and MIG.
• Practical experience in pipefitting and mechanical installation within industrial environments.
• Ability to coach, train and communicate effectively with apprentices and tradespeople.
• Willingness to travel within Ireland and occasionally across Europe.
• In‑depth technical knowledge of semiconductor and pharmaceutical systems, tools and installation techniques.
• Excellent communication skills and a clean driving licence.
