National IBG and Protection Officer – Head of Unit

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Immigration, Border Governance (IBG) and Protection Unit in Ireland. Reporting to the Chief of Mission, the incumbent will manage the design, rollout and operational delivery of IBG and protection projects across multiple sites, ensuring close collaboration with donors, partners and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the planning, implementation and monitoring of IBG and protection projects, including cultural mediation and case‑work assistance for international protection applicants and temporary protection beneficiaries.
• Coordinate counter‑trafficking activities and ensure alignment with national and international frameworks.
• Maintain strong relationships with donors, government agencies, NGOs and other partners to secure resources and promote joint initiatives.
• Provide strategic guidance to the unit, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with IOM policies and standards.
• Prepare reports, budgets and operational plans, and represent IOM in relevant forums.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, international relations or a related field.
• Significant experience in migration management, protection, or border governance, preferably in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑partner projects and deliver results in a complex environment.
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
