Part‑time Medical Consultant (0.5 WTE) – Temporary

About the role

This temporary 0.5 WTE position supports the Clinical duties of the Academic Officer while the holder undertakes postgraduate education. The role is based at Portiuncula University Hospital, a 194‑bed acute care facility serving East Galway and surrounding counties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide general and critical care services at consultant level.
• Participate in the on‑call rota (1:8) alongside the Academic Officer.
• Deliver curriculum and teaching to undergraduate medical students from NUIG and UL.
• Support the National Acute Medicine Programme and implement integrated care pathways.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including NCHDs, nursing and allied health professionals.
• Contribute to audit, continuous medical education and service development.

Required profile

• Registered on the Specialist Register of the Irish Medical Council.
• Qualified physician with experience in acute/general medicine and critical care.
• Ability to work on a part‑time (0.5 WTE) basis for a 1‑year contract.
• Commitment to teaching, audit and service improvement.
