Resident Medical Officer (RMO)

About the role

The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) provides continuous inpatient care, acting as the primary medical contact during each shift and supporting senior consultants in emergencies. This position ensures 24/7 clinical coverage and offers valuable exposure to a wide range of hospital activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct morning and evening ward rounds, monitor vital signs, and perform initial assessments of new admissions.
• Administer medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests (lab, X‑ray), and perform minor procedures such as blood draws and IV insertion.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, code‑blue situations, and casualty calls, stabilising patients until specialist care arrives.
• Maintain accurate patient records, including case histories, progress notes and discharge summaries.
• Coordinate care plans by liaising with nursing staff, allied health professionals, patients and consultants.
• Assist senior doctors during surgeries, complex procedures and specialist rounds.
• Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, safety standards and medical ethics, and support administrative duties as needed.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
• Registration with the relevant Medical Council (e.g., DMC) is mandatory.
• At least 1 year of experience in a large tertiary‑care hospital is preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, ability to make quick decisions under pressure and excellent communication skills.
