Senior Android Applications Developer

About the role

Motorola Solutions is opening a new Research & Development Centre in Cork, Ireland, focused on designing software for its land mobile radio (LMR) portfolio. It is looking for an experienced Senior Android Applications Developer to design, build and maintain mission-critical Android applications used by emergency responders, supporting public-safety communication, situational awareness and operational data systems. The apps must work reliably in demanding field environments with intermittent connectivity.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain Android applications using Kotlin-first practices, with resilient, offline-capable solutions for low-connectivity environments.
• Build modern Android user interfaces with Jetpack Compose suited to high-stress workflows.
• Implement scalable architectures such as MVVM or Clean Architecture.
• Integrate with backend systems, real-time messaging and device services via REST, streaming and event-driven APIs.
• Integrate Bluetooth, radio interfaces, sensors, GPS and background services.
• Optimize for performance, battery efficiency and reliability, and implement secure communication, authentication and data protection.
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, release automation and operational monitoring.
• Take part in design reviews, mentor engineers and fix field issues through root-cause analysis.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong experience developing production Android apps with Kotlin and the Android SDK.
• Experience with high-reliability, enterprise or mission-critical mobile apps.
• Experience with offline-first data synchronization, caching and conflict handling.
• Experience with Bluetooth, device integrations, background processing or hardware-adjacent APIs.
• Git-based workflows and strong collaboration in cross-functional teams.

Required skills

• Networking frameworks such as Retrofit, OkHttp or Ktor
• Preferred: Hilt/Dagger, Kotlin Multiplatform, Compose Multiplatform, Firebase, observability tools, and experience in Agile/Scrum environments
