Senior Android Payments Developer (POS)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Android Payments Developer to lead the creation of card‑acceptance applications on point‑of‑sale (POS) terminals. You will design secure, high‑performance Android software for embedded devices, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and drive certification with major card schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement clean, maintainable Java/Kotlin Android applications for embedded/AOSP POS devices.
• Integrate and validate drivers and SDKs for card readers, PIN pads, NFC/contactless, EMV readers, printers and other peripherals (experience with PAX SDKs preferred).
• Implement payment flows including authorisation, settlement, reversal and offline‑capable scenarios.
• Prepare certification artefacts, run test suites and coordinate with Visa, Mastercard, American Express and other schemes.
• Migrate legacy payment codebases to modern, modular architectures while preserving backward compatibility.
• Apply secure coding practices, support PCI PTS and EMV kernel requirements, and work with security/HSM teams on key management.
• Profile, optimise and add telemetry to improve performance, reliability and observability.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines for terminal images and application packages, including automated regression testing.
• Lead root‑cause analysis for critical incidents, deliver fixes and participate in post‑release reviews.
• Mentor peers, review code and collaborate with QA, programme managers and product owners.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on Android development experience (Java and Kotlin) on embedded/AOSP platforms.
• Proven experience with POS device SDKs and hardware integration, especially PAX devices.
• Deep understanding of payment terminal flows, EMV lifecycle and contactless/NFC processing.
• Familiarity with payment scheme certification processes for Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
• Knowledge of PCI (including PCI PTS) and EMV security standards.
