Senior Backend Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Senior Backend Software Engineer to help shape the future of our quantum‑computing development tools. You will collaborate with Science, Product and Design teams across multiple time zones, influencing architecture and delivering high‑quality software.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable web applications using modern technologies.
• Write clean, efficient, well‑documented code for both front‑end and back‑end components.
• Work with engineers, scientists, designers and product managers to implement, test, deploy and maintain products.
• Maintain professional software development practices and Horizon’s development roadmap.
• Mentor junior engineers and ensure proper documentation of work.
• Contribute to technical reports, research papers and intellectual‑property protection.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, electronics engineering or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant front‑end and back‑end engineering experience in a high‑performing team.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse, distributed team.
• Proactive problem‑solver with a passion for staying up‑to‑date with technical advances.

Required skills

• Front‑end: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React/Angular/Vue.js.
• Back‑end: Node.js, Python, Elixir, Java (or similar).
• Database systems: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB.
• RESTful APIs, CLI development, version control (Git, SVN), agile methodology.
• Experience deploying web technologies on cloud services.
