Senior Engineer – Preconstruction (Hybrid, Galway/Roscommon)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a well‑established main contractor in a pre‑construction capacity. The role is based at the company’s head office in Galway City (or Roscommon Town) and operates on a hybrid schedule, allowing a mix of office and site visits.

Key responsibilities

• Lead constructability and buildability reviews of design information during the pre‑construction stage.
• Develop detailed construction programmes and sequencing strategies in collaboration with project and site teams.
• Drive value‑engineering exercises and identify cost and programme efficiencies.
• Prepare and review method statements, construction logistics plans and phasing strategies.
• Coordinate design team inputs, flagging gaps, conflicts and risks before work reaches site.
• Support procurement strategy, package scoping and early subcontractor engagement.
• Liaise with clients, architects, engineers and consultants throughout pre‑construction.
• Maintain risk registers and contribute to project risk‑management planning.
• Assist with handover of projects from pre‑construction to site delivery teams.

Required profile

• Level 8 degree in Civil, Structural or Construction Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years post‑graduate experience in a Senior or Project Engineer role.
• Strong site background on medium to large‑scale construction projects.
• Excellent technical ability to read, interrogate and critique design drawings and specifications.
• Chartered or working towards chartership with Engineers Ireland (or equivalent).
• Strong communication and coordination skills with experience engaging design teams and clients.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Project or Primavera for programme planning.
• Working knowledge of Irish contract forms (RIAI, FIDIC, NEC).
