Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology

About the role

We are seeking a permanent Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology to join the School of Medicine at the University of Galway. The role combines high‑quality teaching across medicine, pharmacy, nursing and health sciences with an internationally recognised research programme.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in medical microbiology, infection prevention and control, and One Health, using classroom, online and clinical settings.
• Develop and assess curricula, contribute to programme design and student evaluation.
• Lead a world‑class research agenda aligned with the Discipline of Bacteriology and the ARME Group.
• Supervise postgraduate research students and secure external research funding.
• Establish national and international collaborations and disseminate findings through peer‑reviewed journals and conferences.
• Support outreach and communication activities of the Discipline of Bacteriology and the Ryan Institute Centre for One Health.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research experience in antimicrobial resistance, microbial genomics and One Health.
• Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Ability to obtain external grant funding and build collaborative networks.
