Senior Researcher – Electrical Engineering (Power Electronics)

About the role

The International Energy Research Centre (IERC) at Tyndall National Institute is seeking a Senior Researcher in Electrical Engineering with a specialisation in Power Electronics. The role is based in the Intelligent Grid (iG) research team and focuses on developing emerging technologies that support the decarbonisation of energy systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate research projects on power‑electronic converters for intelligent grid applications.
• Design, prototype, and test high‑efficiency power‑electronics hardware.
• Publish scientific papers and present results at international conferences.
• Secure research funding and manage collaborative projects with industry and academia.
• Supervise PhD students and junior researchers.
• Contribute to the EU Chips for Europe Initiative and other strategic programmes.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or a closely related field.
• Proven track record of high‑impact research and publications in power‑electronics or related areas.
• Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and leading research activities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with industry partners.
