Staff Nurse – Children’s (HSE West & North West)

About the role

The Health Service Executive is recruiting Staff Nurses for children’s services within the West & North West health region, covering Portiuncula University Hospital and Galway University Hospital. You will provide high‑quality nursing care to paediatric patients in a dynamic hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to children and their families.
• Perform clinical assessments, administer medication and treatments, and monitor patient progress.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, allied health professionals and support staff.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with HSE policies and clinical guidelines.
• Participate in on‑call and shift work as required.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification recognised in Ireland.
• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
• Experience or a strong interest in paediatric nursing.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to care.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and observation of children.
• Medication administration, including IV therapy.
• Child safeguarding and infection control practices.
