Staff Nurse – Critical Care

About the role

The Health Service Executive is recruiting Staff Nurses for Critical Care areas at Galway University Hospital. The role involves providing high‑quality nursing care in intensive care, cardiac intensive care, high dependency and post‑anaesthetic units.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care to critically ill adults in ICU, CTICU, HDU and PACU.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs, ventilator settings and haemodynamic data.
• Administer medications, including vaso‑active drugs, in accordance with protocols.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.
• Document patient observations and interventions accurately.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
• Experience in critical care or a strong willingness to undertake critical care training.
• Ability to work shift patterns, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using critical care monitoring equipment.
• Knowledge of ventilator management and advanced cardiac life support.
