Assistant General Counsel – In‑House Legal Role

About the role

Assistant General Counsel will join the global Legal, Compliance, Risk & Government Affairs team at S&P Dow Jones Indices. The role provides commercial‑focused legal advice across the index licensing, data licensing and partnership portfolio, supporting senior business stakeholders in a fast‑moving, regulated financial‑data environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day legal advice and support to internal clients on licensing, data, joint‑marketing and co‑development agreements.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including index licensing, data licensing, consulting and partnership agreements.
• Conduct legal research, review marketing material for compliance and manage external counsel engagements.
• Advise on regulatory matters, corporate governance and dispute management relevant to the index business.
• Deliver training to employees on contracting procedures and legal risk.
• Serve as a trusted adviser to product, innovation and commercial teams, shaping legal frameworks for index construction and licensing.

Required profile

• Commercially minded, highly organised legal professional with ability to work autonomously.
• Experience handling complex commercial contracts and regulatory issues in a financial‑data or asset‑management context.
• Proven ability to interact with senior stakeholders and manage external legal resources.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
