Assistant Professor – English (Children’s Literature)

About the role

The School of English at Dublin City University is seeking an Assistant Professor to join its faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, develop new programmes, and advance research in English literature, with a particular focus on children’s literature.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and seminars across the School’s English programmes, including nineteenth‑century literature, modernism and post‑modernism.
• Design and develop new undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects and PhD candidates.
• Maintain an active research agenda, publishing regularly in leading journals.
• Foster collaborative research networks within DCU and with external partners.
• Identify and pursue research funding opportunities beyond traditional literary studies.

Required profile

• Demonstrable expertise in children’s literature.
• Proven teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
• Record of scholarly output: at least three peer‑reviewed articles or book chapters.
• Ability to contribute to the School’s community and collegial environment.

• No specific technical skills required; strong academic and research capabilities are essential.
