Assistant Professor – Spanish & Latin American Studies

About the role

Maynooth University is seeking an Assistant Professor / Lecturer in Spanish and Latin American Studies. The successful candidate will specialise in either Translation Studies (including literary, scientific, technical, digital translation) or Language Education (second‑language pedagogy, assessment, digital support for Spanish teaching). The position is full‑time, tenure‑track and based on the Maynooth campus.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Spanish, translation, or language education.
• Supervise Master’s and PhD research projects within the School of Languages.
• Develop and update curricula, incorporating digital technologies where appropriate.
• Maintain an active research profile, publish in reputable journals, and secure external funding.
• Contribute to departmental administration and outreach activities.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Spanish, Latin American Studies, Translation Studies, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of teaching, research and scholarly publication appropriate to an early‑career academic.
• Ability to teach in English and Spanish.
• Commitment to inclusive and equitable education.

Required skills

• Expertise in Spanish language and literature.
• Specialised knowledge in either translation theory/practice or second‑language pedagogy.
• Familiarity with digital tools for translation or language teaching.
