Attorney II – Problem Properties

About the role

The City Counselor’s Office is seeking an Attorney II to join its Problem Properties Section. This full‑time position provides legal representation and counsel on nuisance, code violations, and property‑related issues affecting the community.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct electronic and traditional legal research.
• Educate residents and business owners on reporting nuisance activity and code violations.
• Serve as liaison between property owners and the Problem Properties Taskforce after Cease‑and‑Desist notices.
• Review, draft, and prepare a variety of legal documents and provide related advice.
• Appear before administrative agencies, state and federal courts, and represent the City in hearings and trials.
• Prepare briefs, motions, memoranda, pleadings, and manage discovery processes.
• Respond promptly to legal inquiries from City departments, agencies, and officials.

Required profile

• Law degree and admission to practice in Missouri.
• Ability to perform mid‑ to upper‑level data analysis and make data‑driven decisions.
• Strong negotiation skills within legal frameworks.
• Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer applications.
• Excellent verbal communication and advisory abilities.
