Commercial Manager – Mechanical Engineering Projects

About the role

MSL Engineering Ltd is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial and contractual performance of multiple mechanical engineering projects across Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor and Data Centre sectors. The role will oversee projects from tender through to final account, ensuring profitability and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all commercial activities for a portfolio of mechanical engineering projects.
• Manage budgets, cost controls, cash‑flow forecasting and financial reporting.
• Monitor performance against commercial targets and drive margin improvement.
• Review, negotiate and administer client and subcontractor contracts, handling variations, claims and final accounts.
• Provide commercial guidance to project teams and maintain records for claims.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and engineering teams to achieve commercial objectives.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships in the pharmaceutical, life‑science and semiconductor sectors.
• Mentor Quantity Surveyors and commercial staff, promoting best practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Significant experience in mechanical construction and commercial management within life‑science, data‑centre or semiconductor environments.
• Proven ability to maximise project profitability while managing contractual risk.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
