Company Accountant

About the role

The Accountant will support the organisation's financial health, transparency and compliance. You will be responsible for management reporting, budgeting, payroll, VAT compliance, financial systems development and internal controls, providing accurate information for strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts with variance analysis and commentary.
• Produce financial reports for senior management, board members and external stakeholders.
• Present financial information at board and committee meetings as required.
• Support the preparation of annual financial statements and liaise with external auditors.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and produce regular forecasts and cash‑flow projections.
• Monitor budget performance and analyse variances.
• Process payroll accurately and on time, coordinating with external providers when needed.
• Prepare, review and submit VAT returns and manage tax‑related matters.
• Implement, maintain and improve financial systems and processes, identifying automation opportunities.
• Provide guidance and training on financial procedures, conduct internal reviews and support risk‑management activities.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience preparing management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
• Strong understanding of financial controls, compliance and audit processes.
• Experience improving financial systems and processes.
• Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑finance stakeholders.
• Background in not‑for‑profit, public sector or regulated environments.
• High integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
