Consultant Anaesthesiologist

About the role

The HSE Mid West is seeking a qualified Consultant Anaesthesiologist to join its clinical team on a permanent basis. This senior medical position involves delivering high‑quality anaesthetic care across a range of surgical specialties within a hospital setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide pre‑operative assessment, anaesthetic planning and intra‑operative management for diverse surgical cases.
• Lead and supervise junior anaesthetists, trainees and nursing staff in the operating theatre.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to patient safety and care pathways.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies and national guidelines.
• Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to research or audit activities.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration on the Irish Medical Council register.
• Specialist training and certification in Anaesthesiology.
• Demonstrated experience in delivering anaesthetic services in a hospital environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in advanced airway management and regional anaesthesia techniques.
• Knowledge of peri‑operative patient monitoring and emergency response protocols.
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for patient records.
