About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist to join the multidisciplinary team at University Hospital Limerick. This permanent, full‑time position is open to both HSE and non‑HSE applicants and plays a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality peri‑operative care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert anaesthetic care for a wide range of surgical and interventional procedures.
• Lead and supervise junior anaesthetists, registrars, and nursing staff.
• Participate in on‑call rotas, emergency airway management, and critical care duties.
• Contribute to departmental teaching, audit, and research activities.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Registration as a specialist anaesthetist on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland.
• Substantial experience in anaesthesia within a tertiary hospital setting.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and high standards of patient care.
