Consultant Urologist – University Hospital Limerick

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is seeking a Consultant Urologist to join the multidisciplinary team at University Hospital Limerick. This senior, whole‑time position offers the opportunity to lead urology services, deliver high‑quality patient care, and contribute to teaching and research within a major Irish teaching hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment for urological conditions.
• Perform urological surgeries and endoscopic procedures, including minimally invasive techniques.
• Supervise and mentor junior doctors, registrars and medical students.
• Participate in on‑call rotas and emergency urology services.
• Engage in clinical research, audit activities and service development initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners in Ireland.
• Recognised specialist qualification in urology and several years of post‑consultant experience.
• Commitment to the values and standards of the HSE and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Urological surgical techniques (open, laparoscopic, robotic where applicable).
• Endoscopic procedures such as cystoscopy and ureteroscopy.
• Comprehensive patient management and follow‑up in urology.
