Corporate Insurance Lawyer

About the role

A&L Goodbody is hiring a qualified solicitor (3-6 PQE) to join its Corporate Insurance practice, which is described as Ireland's largest and longest established dedicated (re)insurance law practice. The Corporate Insurance team is the non-contentious part of the wider insurance practice, led by three Partners and an Of Counsel, with six solicitors ranging from newly qualified to senior associate.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on the establishment and business expansion of insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries
• Advise on mergers, acquisitions, cross-border mergers and conversions, portfolio transfers, joint ventures, disposals and reorganisations of insurance businesses
• Advise on reinsurance agreements and associated collateral arrangements
• Advise on insurance mediation and distribution channels
• Advise on winding up and administration of insurers, and court schemes for amalgamation, division or transfer of business
• Advise on the regulatory environment affecting insurers and reinsurers in Ireland, including product offerings, consumer laws, governance, solvency requirements, regulatory capital applications and compliance obligations
• Support clients and industry bodies on emerging issues such as ESG and sustainability and the use of AI in insurance

The team works closely with an M&A team that includes an insurance-focused partner, and regularly handles Central Bank of Ireland regulatory investigations, enforcement actions and crisis management work alongside regulatory investigations colleagues.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with 3-6 PQE
