Data Engineer – Python & SQL Focus

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our team in Letterkenny on a three‑day‑a‑week onsite schedule. You will design, develop, and support data provisioning and ingestion pipelines that enable critical analytics and reporting across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data ingestion pipelines for structured and semi‑structured sources.
• Develop Python‑based solutions using strong object‑oriented design principles for data processing and automation.
• Create and optimise SQL transformations in relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
• Support and stabilise existing on‑prem pipelines, ensuring performance and reliability.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on data issues and implement quality checks and safeguards.
• Collaborate with Java‑based application teams to deliver cross‑technology data solutions.
• Contribute to architectural modernisation and continuous improvement in an Agile environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or a related field.
• Strong core Python experience with solid object‑oriented programming knowledge.
• Proven experience building and supporting data ingestion pipelines.
• Advanced application‑level SQL skills, including complex queries and performance tuning.
• Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Good understanding of data quality, validation and operational support.
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams.
