Data Scientist

About the role

CarTrawler is seeking a Data Scientist to develop cutting‑edge machine‑learning solutions that optimise trading performance across pricing, recommendation and other revenue‑critical domains. You will work closely with product, revenue and MLOps teams to turn data into actionable insights and scalable models.

Key responsibilities

• Define data requirements, extract and prepare datasets for model development.
• Perform exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, inform feature engineering and guide modelling decisions.
• Design, build and validate statistical and economic models that improve pricing, recommendation and other trading functions.
• Collaborate with the MLOps team to deploy models into production and monitor real‑time performance.
• Develop robust testing plans, run in‑market experiments and analyse results.
• Communicate findings and model outcomes to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Support the Revenue function with tools, models and resources for ongoing optimisation.
• Work with broader data and technology teams to enhance data collection and quality.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree, M.S. or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering).
• 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning or a related role.
• Strong understanding of statistical modelling, algorithms, data mining and end‑to‑end ML workflows.
• Experience with advanced ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or MXNet.
• Familiarity with Generative AI techniques is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python programming and SQL for relational databases.
• Ability to convey complex quantitative concepts to both technical and business audiences.
