Director of Internal Audit (Insurance)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Internal Audit to lead audit and risk assurance activities for a fast‑growing Dublin‑based insurance company. This senior leadership position combines strategic oversight with hands‑on delivery, providing independent assurance over governance, risk management and control frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of risk‑based internal audit engagements and strategic assurance initiatives across business functions and jurisdictions.
• Oversee the full audit lifecycle, ensuring high‑quality planning, execution, reporting and follow‑up in line with professional standards.
• Review audit work, evidence, findings and recommendations, providing effective challenge and robust assurance outcomes.
• Assess organisational risks and deliver independent insight on governance, risk management and internal control effectiveness.
• Contribute to the development of the internal audit strategy, annual audit plan and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, influencing and challenging across functions and geographies.
• Present audit findings, risk insights and recommendations to executive leadership, boards and governance committees.
• Lead, coach and develop audit team members while remaining involved in audit delivery.

Required profile

• Relevant professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIA or equivalent).
• Significant internal audit, external audit or risk experience within a regulated financial services environment.
• Insurance sector experience strongly preferred.
• Proven experience leading complex audits and assurance activities in large or multinational organisations.
• Strong understanding of governance, risk management and internal control frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, influence senior stakeholders and lead teams effectively.
• Experience presenting to senior leadership, boards and governance committees.
