Electrical Technician - Lihir Gold Mine (FIFO)

About the role

Newmont's Lihir Operation, one of the world's largest gold mines on Lihir Island, PNG, is hiring an Electrical Technician within its Fixed Plant Maintenance team. You will maintain the reliability, safety and availability of critical processing plant assets through electrical maintenance and fault-finding, helping minimise downtime and keep plant running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative, breakdown and corrective maintenance on fixed plant, Mine Dewatering, Workshop, Generator and Office Complex electrical equipment.
• Diagnose and repair faults on electrical systems, control wiring and process control interfaces.
• Maintain HV and LV motors, motor control centres (MCCs), variable speed drives, power distribution and lighting systems.
• Read, interpret and update electrical drawings and technical documentation.
• Carry out all work in line with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules and site standards, keeping accurate maintenance records.
• Contribute to equipment reliability and continuous improvement, and uphold Newmont's safety standards.

Required profile

• Electrical trade qualification and Power Electrical Licence.
• Class 6 driver's licence.
• Previous experience in mining, processing or heavy industry.
• Experience maintaining industrial electrical equipment and systems.
• High voltage certification and elevated work platform ticket highly regarded.

Required skills

• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
• Knowledge of HV/LV motors, MCCs, VSDs, power distribution and plant electrical systems.
• Proficiency in basic MS Office tools (Word, Excel).
