Financial Controller – Galway

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Financial Controller to lead day‑to‑day financial operations for a pharmaceutical client in Galway. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will ensure the integrity of the general ledger, timely month‑end and year‑end closes, and effective management of accounting, receivables, payables and treasury functions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes, delivering accurate financial statements on schedule.
• Manage, coach and develop a finance team of approximately 15 across accounting, AR, AP and treasury.
• Maintain general ledger integrity, balance‑sheet reconciliations and the fixed‑asset register.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable cycles, including payment runs, credit control and working‑capital management.
• Support cash‑flow reporting and day‑to‑day treasury operations.
• Prepare statutory accounts and act as the primary contact for external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with VAT, tax filings, statutory reporting and internal controls.
• Assist the Group Financial Controller and CFO with management reporting, analysis and ad‑hoc finance projects.
• Drive continuous improvement in finance processes, systems and controls.

Required profile

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• 7+ years post‑qualification experience, including 2–3 years in a Financial Controller or senior finance management role within manufacturing or pharmaceutical environments.
• Proven experience leading large, multi‑functional finance teams.
• Hands‑on experience with month‑end close, statutory reporting and audit management.
• Experience working in an SAP environment is strongly preferred.
• Manufacturing or pharmaceutical industry experience is a strong advantage.
