General Foreman

About the role

The General Foreman reports to the Contracts Manager and works closely with the Quantity Surveyor to lead on‑site delivery, workmanship and safety for construction projects across Ireland.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and monitor key stage programmes and site security, including hutting, hoardings and signboards.
• Take possession of the site, plan and coordinate trade activities, and apply for temporary service connections.
• Interpret drawings and specifications, communicate directions to personnel, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ensure method statements and risk assessments are completed for high‑risk activities.
• Request outstanding information, secure necessary approvals and review buildability for commercial or programme advantage.
• Implement environmental controls with the Environmental Co‑ordinator and attend site, subcontractor and internal meetings, circulating notes and actions.

Required profile

• Minimum ten years’ experience in construction management with a national or regional contractor.
• Strong analytical, organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• First Aid at Work certificate and IOSH or equivalent H&S management training.
• Training in Temporary Works & Excavation Safety, Working at Heights & Scaffolding, Lifting & Cranage operations, and other HSEQS requirements.
