General Operative – Waste Processing Facility

About the role

The General Operative will support the safe and efficient daily operation of a waste processing facility in Portlaoise. Working within the Operations team, you will handle the receipt, segregation, processing and dispatch of various waste streams while ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and company procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, track and segregate incoming waste streams such as paint waste, batteries and aerosols.
• Process fuel oil and other materials according to operational requirements.
• Load and unload trucks, containers and waste materials safely and efficiently.
• Follow standard operating procedures and the company’s EPA waste licence.
• Complete required paperwork and administrative tasks as directed.
• Adhere to health and safety policies, wear appropriate PPE and report any safety concerns or incidents immediately.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure all activities meet health and safety requirements.
• Communicate issues promptly to the Operations Manager or Supervisor.
• Provide operational support to other business areas, including off‑site waste oil and garage services.
• Maintain vehicles, equipment and PPE in clean, working order and report loss or damage.

Required profile

• Enjoys practical, outdoor and physically active work combined with occasional office‑based administration.
• Strong commitment to health and safety, attention to detail and flexibility to support varying operational needs.
• Experience operating forklifts or power pallet trucks in a warehouse, yard or industrial environment.
