Hands-On Software Engineer – C#/.NET (Contract, London/Dublin)

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Software Engineer to join a leading consultancy delivering a strategic integration platform for a global insurance and reinsurance client. The role is contract‑based, hybrid (2‑3 days onsite per week) and based in London or Dublin.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop components that receive, queue and reliably process messages from third‑party platforms, handling failures and retries.
• Build integrations with the data persistence layer, ensuring secure storage and availability for downstream systems.
• Develop and expose RESTful Web APIs and contribute to the API Management layer for internal consumers.
• Collaborate with architects, QA engineers, developers and data platform specialists to translate requirements into production‑ready software.
• Support and enhance existing components, identifying optimisation and continuous‑improvement opportunities.
• Produce clear technical documentation covering solutions, integrations and development standards.
• Ensure non‑functional requirements such as performance, reliability, scalability and testability are met throughout the lifecycle.
• Participate in estimation, planning and progress reporting against programme milestones.
• Work within a GitHub‑based development environment following best practices for source control and delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent commercial experience in a relevant discipline.
• Strong commercial development experience with C# and Microsoft .NET.
• Experience designing and implementing microservices and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, Kafka or Azure Service Bus.
• Proven ability to develop and consume RESTful Web APIs.
• Experience with SQL Server and ORM frameworks, preferably Entity Framework.
• Exposure to Azure cloud services and hybrid on‑premise deployments.
