Head of Enterprise

About the role

The Head of Enterprise is a senior leadership position within the Active Land Management & Economic Development Directorate of Kerry County Council. You will lead a dedicated team providing coordinated state support to micro and small businesses across the county, acting as the primary contact for enterprise development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team delivering high‑quality support services to micro and small enterprises.
• Design, implement and monitor a strategic plan that promotes entrepreneurship, enterprise growth and job creation at the local level.
• Ensure the Local Enterprise Office operates as a “First Stop Shop” for business start‑up, growth and development needs.
• Collaborate with internal departments, community groups, and external partners to align resources and initiatives.
• Represent the Council in regional and national enterprise forums and procurement programmes.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience, preferably within local government or economic development.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing enterprise or business‑support strategies.
• Strong understanding of the challenges faced by micro and small businesses.
