IT Senior Systems Administrator – Contract (Cork)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to join our Cork team on a contract basis. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our IT infrastructure while supporting both on‑site users and the broader technology strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead installation, configuration, and ongoing management of servers, storage, network devices and other infrastructure components.
• Administer and monitor Windows and Linux operating systems, virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud environments.
• Oversee L1.5 help‑desk escalations, ensuring timely resolution of complex technical issues.
• Implement and maintain backup solutions and disaster‑recovery plans, testing them regularly.
• Ensure compliance with security policies, applying patches, updates and supporting firewalls, intrusion detection and encryption measures.
• Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls and wireless access points.
• Develop PowerShell and Bash scripts to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency.
• Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of configurations, processes and procedures.
• Coordinate with external vendors for hardware/software procurement, warranties and third‑party support.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Proven senior‑level experience in systems administration and infrastructure management.
• Own vehicle and a valid driving licence for occasional site visits.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to mentor junior staff.
