Junior Product Development Engineer

About the role

Hanley Energy is seeking a Junior Product Development Engineer to join its R&D team. You will work on complex low‑voltage (LV) distribution projects for the electrical power industry, collaborating closely with customers and internal teams to deliver innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the R&D Manager and work as part of the ECAD team.
• Design critical power distribution systems, PLC‑based control panels, and energy‑monitoring solutions.
• Assemble document packages, develop drawing sets, and ensure compliance with international standards such as IEC 61439 and UL 891.
• Communicate design progress, submit designs and BOMs for review, and coordinate with project leads on timelines and changes.
• Support continuous improvement of R&D processes and controls.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience designing low‑voltage power distribution products.
• Proven ability to work to prescribed standards and deliver high‑quality documentation.
• Excellent communication, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driving licence, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel when required.

Required skills

• SolidWorks Electrical or comparable electrical design software.
• Knowledge of IEC 61439 and UL 891 standards.
• Experience with PLC‑based control panels and energy‑monitoring systems.
• Low‑voltage power distribution design.
• ECAD documentation and BOM preparation.
